Leave Apt by way of the D22 until Rustrel. Before the village, take a right towards Banon, and then the second road right to visit the "Provençal Colorado" (1 to 2 hours). These are ancient ochre quarries which were abandoned during the 50'. natural erosion then took over, sculpting the cliffs into their present shape, which reminds one of a mini-Colorado.
Follow the marked pathways. Then continue your circuit towards Gignac, Simiane-la-Rotonde and Banon, famous for its goat cheeses. Then head for St Etienne les Orgues, to start on the climb up the Montagne de Lure. After the oratory St Joseph, take the small stone road on the right to see the Chapel of Notre Dame de Lure, built by the Monks of Boscodon of the Order of the Chalais towards 1165.

Continue towards the Pas de la Graille which dominates the Valley of the Jabron, and then go down the North side into the beech tree wood of la Fayée. On your left you see the Montagne du Sumiou, and on your right is the Cirque de Valbelle.
You then join the D946 which follows the Jabron, take a left and go up the valley until you reach the Col de Macuègne, go back towards Montbrun-les-Bains, by way of the Valley of Anary.
Visit Montbrun-les-Bains, a thermal town with a very interesting medieval old part.
Go back up towards Ferrassières on the D189, stop half way there to try and hear the belling (mating cry) of the stag in the evenings at the beginning of Autumn. St Trinit is well woth a visit with its 12 th century church.
Continue on towards Christol, and the military buildings on your left are the remains of the ex missile base from the Plateau d'Albion.
Return to Apt by way of Rustrel : beautiful views of the Colorado on your way back down.
